Dual Purpose Home Decorating Rooms

Home Decorating Rooms

Many homes have at least one room that performs a dual purpose mainly because busy families have created multi-functional rooms out of necessity. For example, extra bedrooms will work well as an office until out-of-town guests come to visit. What was a teen’s bedroom might now serve as an adult craft center or sewing room until the teen returns home during college break.

Unfortunately, the process of changing a single room into a multi-use space can be quite challenging as well as frustrating, time-consuming and expensive if the process is not properly handled. In order to use the area to its full potential, homeowners will need to clearly identify how they are going to use the room in order to solidify their plans. Here are a few ideas to consider as you look at your options.

Home Decorating Rooms Furniture

Buy dual purpose furniture. Purchase furniture that can perform more than one use. For example, buy two smaller tables rather than one big desk when creating an office in a spare bedroom. The tables can double as bedside tables when guests come to visit. Otherwise they work well for paperwork and computers the rest of the time.

Consider creating two separate areas. Homeowners may need to divide the room into two distinct areas by adding an area rug or placing an open bookshelf between the two spaces. In an extreme move, inexpensive fabric panels could hang from the ceiling between the two spaces.

Clear the clutter. When one room is used for two different purposes, clutter can quickly double. There are a number of ways to conceal the extra items including shelves, multiple storage containers, and chests or hollowed-out ottomans. Keeping clutter to a minimum is especially important when the space is used for such endeavors as sewing or scrap booking.

Home Decorating Rooms Space

One of the most important considerations when creating a multi-functional space is to keep accessories to a minimum. Homeowners will want to concentrate on what furniture to place in the room, how to create more storage space, and what additional light might be needed for each area.

Adding too many decorative pieces might result in an overly crowded room and the appearance of clutter. Dual purpose rooms are a smart choice for homeowners who need the space, but common sense needs to prevail in creating those spaces. By concentrating on the purpose of the space, what furniture or accessories may be needed, and using wisdom to leave out what is unnecessary will help create a dual purpose room anyone can enjoy.
